Only 8% of population in Iraqi Kurdistan has received full covid-19 vaccination: official

Kurdistan region,— About 8% of Iraqi Kurdistan region’s population is fully vaccinated against coronavirus (covid-19), while 13% has got one dose, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) deputy minister of health Rahel Faraidun said on Saturday.

Faraidun told local NRT TV that Teachers, who work with a large number of students, are required to receive the vaccine. He stated that if stricter measures are required, the KRG will take them.

Jotyar Adil, a spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), declared on October 25, that all teachers in Iraqi Kurdistan must be vaccinated against coronavirus by December 1 and all KRG employees by January 1.

Adil also warned that those who refuse to comply will face legal consequences.

In October, Iraqi Kurdistan’s unvaccinated premier Massoud Barzani urges people to get covid-19 jabs.

The most important government figures in Iraqi Kurdistan including KRG President Nechirvan Barzani and KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, – have not been vaccinated against coronavirus. But Iraqi president Barham Salih (an ethnic Kurd) has received his first covid-19 vaccine on April 27, 2021.

Coronavirus instances have been steadily dropping in Iraqi Kurdistan since the summer peak, while health officials have recently reported a concerning increase in coronavirus cases.

As on Sunday, and according to the KRG ministry of health there have been 372.125 of coronavirus in Iraqi Kurdistan. A total of 358,642 patients have recovered, and 6,774 people have died.

In March 2020 the World Health Organization WHO has declared the spread of coronavirus, formally known COVID-19, to be a pandemic. The statistics on November 19, 2021 showed that there are over 255,324,963 coronavirus cases globally, including more than 5,127,696 confirmed deaths, and as of November 18, 2021, a total of 7,370,902,499 vaccine doses have been administered worldwide, according to WHO.
